Hamza Malick was drag racing another motorist early Saturday evening in the rain with his two young children in the car.

Malick, 27, of Bibbins Avenue, and Gabriel Jorquera, 20, of Szost Drive, were driving at speeds of up to 50 mph in heavy rain about 5 p.m. Sunday on Kings Highway.

In car seats in the back seat of Malick's car were children 4 months and 2 years old, police said.

Both drivers were stopped at a red traffic light on Jennings Road -- Malick in a red Scion and Jorquera in a yellow Dodge -- according to the report. When the light turned green, both accelerated causing the Scion's wheels to spin and to begin fishtailing.

Joquera was charged with reckless driving and released at the scene on a promise to appear April 8 in Bridgeport Superior Court.

Police charged Malick with reckless driving and risk of injury to a minor. He was released on a promise to appear April 7 in Bridgeport Superior Court, and the state Department of Children and Families was notified of the incident.
