A woman, apparently passed out from oxycodone, was found last week in her car -- her two young children in the back seat -- as the engine ran in a local shopping center lot.

Cami M. Demace, 34, of Judson Street in Shelton, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and risk of injury to a minor after a passerby called police around 5:30 p.m. Saturday to report a woman was asleep in her car at a Black Rock Turnpike parking lot.

When police arrived, they said they found Demace kneeling on the front seat, facing toward the back of the car, her head on the headrest, as the car's engine was running. In the back seat were her 2- and 1-year-old children.

According to the report, the officer had to knock on the car's window several times before Demace woke up.

Demace allegedly admitted to taking oxycodone and a bag with 28 oxycodone pills was found in the car, according to the report. Her mother was called to pick up the children and the state Department of Children and Families was notified.

Demace was released on $400 bond and she is scheduled to appear May 5 at state Superior Court in Bridgeport.
