A Daybreak Road woman was charged after she sideswiped a car on Hill Farm Road just after noon Tuesday, and then allegedly tried to hide prescription drugs in a rock wall.
Maggie White, 23, was charged with driving under the influence, possession of narcotics, evading responsibility and failure to drive in the proper lane. She was released on a promise to appear Sept. 21 at state Superior Court in Bridgeport on the drug charge, and Sept. 22 for the motor vehicle charges.
Police said the accident happened shortly after noon as White was driving on Hill Farm Road when she crossed over into the other lane of traffic. She then made a sharp turn to avoid an approaching car, and sideswiped the car, hitting its mirror and bumper before driving another 164 feet down the road.
According to the report, White was forced to finally stop because the axle on her car broke.
When officers arrived they said White had climbed over a stone wall and was in a wooded area behind a tree, trying to hide a prescription pill bottle. Two other pill bottles were at her feet, and the pills themselves, police said, had been hidden under a stone in the wall. The pills included acetaminophen with codeine, according to the report, and White allegedly told officers she had smoked marijuana and taken Xanax.
White failed field sobriety tests, and police said she had slurred speech and was unsteady on her feet.
