Police are looking for a man they said tried to grab a carton of cigarettes from a local convenience store clerk Tuesday night.

The cashier at Cumberland Farms, 975 Kings Highway, told police that a customer came into the store just before midnight and asked for a carton of Newport cigarettes. When she told him the price, she said he suddenly reached over the counter and grabbed her arm. She said she quickly moved backward and he let go.

The suspect, described as a tall man with a thin build, blond hair and blue eyes, left the store on foot, headed toward Chambers Street. He was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, police said.

The case is under investigation.
