The Chelsea, a new restaurant that opened on Unquowa Place several weeks ago, received a visit from the police at lunch time Wednesday, but the cops weren't there for food.

Employees had blocked off several two-hour parking spaces on the street in front of the restaurant to prevent anyone from parking next to its outdoor seating area, prompting complaints to police -- including one from the tanning salon next door.

Police said the children's high chairs used to block off the street parking spaces had been removed by the time officers arrived, but restaurant management told them it was done only while a photo shoot was taking place at the new eatery.

The managers were told, however, that they cannot block off public parking spaces for any amount of time.

The Chelsea received final approval from the Town Plan and Zoning Commission only as of Tuesday night for its outdoor seating, although the outdoor dining area had been in use prior to that vote.
