Owners of dogs 6 months old and over must be licensed by July 1 each year.

Licenses may be purchased at the Town Clerk’s Office from Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., according to Town Clerk Betsy Browne. A current rabies certificate for the dog is also required.

The fee for a spayed or neutered dog is $8. If the dog has not been spayed or neutered, the fee is $19. The first time a dog is licensed, a certificate of spaying or neutering must be presented to qualify for the lower fee.

After July 1, a $1 per month penalty is added to the standard license fee.

To apply for the license by mail, send the required certificates to Betsy P. Browne, Town Clerk, 611 Old Post Road, Fairfield CT 06824, along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope.
