Fairfield Public Library will hold two free screenings of a documentary on Sudanese children forced to flee their homes because of war on Friday, Oct. 28, at the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road. They will be shown at 2 and 7 p.m. in the library's Rotary Room.
Gabriel Bol Deng, one of the boys featured in the documentary, will introduce the film, called "Rebuilding Hope."
Over 20,000 children, who became known as "The Lost Boys and Girls of Sudan," were forced to flee their homes in South Sudan due to civil war, according to the library. The film documents Deng's return to Sudan after 20 years to search for his family. Trumbull artist Cynthia Davis, the event's organizer, who met Deng in 2008, founded the Sudan Canvas Project to raise awareness of genocide victims through art.
