Dogs banned from Jennings, Penfield beaches during cleanup

Dogs, traditionally allowed to accompany owners to Fairfield's beaches off-season, are banned from Jennings and Penfield beaches at least through Friday, Nov. 16, because of the continuing cleanup of potentially hazardous materials left in the wake of two recent storms.
Police announced Friday that because materials such as metal pieces, broken glass and shards of wood litter the beaches in the wake of Storm Sandy and the nor'easter, no animals will be allowed there at least through the end of the week.
Cleanup crews will be working along the waterfront to clear the debris through the week.
Officials will re-assess the ban at some point during the week, police said.
