Driver charged in '07 crash

Brian Arbelaez, 28, of Naugatuck, has been charged on a warrant in connection with a single-car accident in Fairfield in November 2007. He was picked up Tuesday by Bridgeport police.

Arbelaez was driving east on Villa Avenue when he tried to negotiate a curve in the road and slid about 100 feet, become airborne and then hit a utility pole, according to the report. The driver-side door was wrapped around the pole and Arbelaez had be to extricated from the car. His speed was estimated at a minimum of 74 mph, police said.

At the time of the accident, he was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport for treatment.

He was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving and failure to drive right. His bond was set at $2,500 and he has a Sept. 12 date in Bridgeport Superior Court.
