FAIRFIELD — Washington Valarino-Dasilva, 37, of Capitol Avenue, Bridgeport, was charged on a warrant Tuesday in connection with a March 27 single-car accident.

According to the police investigation, Valarino-Dasilva was headed south on Melville Avenue around 1 a.m. that day when he crossed over the double-yellow traffic line, hit a tree and overturned his pickup truck.

A witness said after the accident, a second car drove up, and two people helped Valarino-Dasilva out of the pickup and into their sedan and then sped off. But police said their investigation into the incident led to Valarino-Dasilva.

He turned himself in at police headquarters and was charged with evading responsibility, operating without a license and failure to drive in the proper lane.

He was released after posting $5,000 bond and is to appear May 3 at state Superior Court in Bridgeport.
