A woman escaped serious injuries after her car rolled over and burst into flames early Sunday on the Merritt Parkway in Fairfield, according to firefighters.
The single-car crash, reported shortly after 3:15 a.m. Sunday, took place between the highway's southbound Exits 44 and 42.
Fairfield firefighters arriving on the scene said the driver was already out of the overturned vehicle, which was on its roof and fully involved in flames, according to Assistant Fire Chef George Gomola.
The driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, told AMR Ambulance personnel that she was not seriously injured and declined to be taken to a hospital.
Fairfield Fire Department's Engines 5 and 2, and Ladder trucks 1 and 2 were dispatched to the scene, as well as Car 3. Westport firefighters, who also were alerted to the accident, also were on the scene.
