The driver of a car that suffered severe front-end damage after crashing Sunday on the Merritt Parkway at the Westport-Fairfield border escaped serious injuries.

Firefighters from both Westport and Fairfield were dispatched to the accident scene about 10: 15 a.m. after a tire blowout caused a female driver to lose control of her Honda Accord and crash at the Burr Street overpass as she was traveling north about 10:15 a.m. Sunday.

Despite the serious damage to the Honda, the driver refused medical treatment.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
