David Diaz, 20, of Beaconview Drive, was charged with illegal possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia Saturday night.

Shortly before 11 p.m., officers on patrol saw a Volkswagen Jetta occupied by four males in the parking lot of Firestone Complete Auto Care, 750 Kings Highway East. Police said the parking lot is often used by patrons of Sky Hookah Lounge, across the street at 689 Kings Highway East, as a place to park their cars when Firestone is closed, as it was at that time.

After approaching the vehicle and speaking with the occupants, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana and asked the driver, Diaz, to step out, police said. An officer searched him and found glassine baggies commonly used in the sale of marijuana in his possession, according to the report.

Officers also found a glassine baggie containing a green, leafy substance that later tested positive for marijuana in the driver-side door panel and a scale in the center console, police said.

An 18-year-old occupant of the vehicle also was issued an infraction for having an open bottle of vodka, police said.

Diaz posted a $100 bond and is scheduled to appear March 2 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
