ELEANOR M. WARD

Eleanor M. Ward, 84, of Greenwich, died Feb. 16, 2010.

She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Robert K. Ward, and her parents, Jack and Susie DeMartin.

Born Sept. 9, 1925, in New Haven, she grew up in Fairfield. She graduated from Green Mountain Junior College in 1945 and from Adelphi University in 1948 with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. She met her husband of 54 years while working in the emergency room of United Hospital in Port Chester, N.Y.

Ward lived in Greenwich for the past 45 years. She was a former vice president and a long-time member of the Greenwich Choral Society. She was a member for many years of the 14th Twig of Rye, N.Y., and, as such, was a buyer and helped to operate the gift shop at The Rye Town Hilton for the benefit of United Hospital. Ward continued her retail career as a co-owner for 12 years of the "Greenwich Boutique" at Greenwich Woods. She was also a member and officer of the former Steamboat Gamblers Investment Club.

An active member at Second Congregational Church in Greenwich, she served in a variety of leadership positions and was very involved with The Women's Fellowship.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Ward Raposa and her husband, David of Tiverton, R.I.; her daughter, Sally Ward McGovern and her husband, Kenneth of Avon; grandsons, Conor and Gavin McGovern; and her brothers, Dr. John J. DeMartin and Dr. Robert E. DeMartin, both of Fairfield.

Ward loved all animals and will especially be missed by her feline best friends, Sophie and Penny.

A memorial service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, at Second Congregational Church, 139 East Putnam Ave., Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Second Congregational Church, 139 East Putnam Ave., Greenwich, CT 06830; to Cat Assistance Inc., P.O. Box 539, Ardsley, NY 10502; or to the charity of one's choice.
