Elinor Jennings Mills, formerly of Westport and Fairfield, died Jan. 11 in the Lutheran Home of Southbury, two days before her 97th birthday.

Born at Grandview Farm on Hoydens Hill in Fairfield, she lived there until 1929 when her family moved to Knapps Highway. She married Clifton Hoyt Mills in 1940 and moved to Cross Highway in Westport, where she lived for more than 70 years. She attended Fairfield schools, Timothy Dwight School and Roger Ludlowe High School, graduating in 1933. She worked at General Electric in Bridgeport until 1943.

She also worked alongside her husband on one of the last poultry farms in Westport. She enjoyed crewel, crochet and sewing, as well as gardening.

Survivors include a son, Clifton Mills Jr. of Northfield, N.H.; a daughter, Virginia Lewis of Kent; a sister, Shirley Fredericks of Easton; grandchildren, Polly Fife and her husband Kevin of Northfield, N.H., Clifton Mills III and his wife Elizabeth, of Fort Drum, N.Y., Lawrence Lewis Jr. and his fiancée Leann Bartomioli of Irondequoit, N.Y.; great-granddaughters, Megan and Rachel Fife; a niece, Judith McWaters of Bethlehem, in addition to other nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents Sarah Marguerite Knapp and Clifford Leslie Jennings of Fairfield, twin sister Evelyn Banks of Fairfield, sister Helene Deary of New Hampshire, son in-law Lawrence Lewis Sr. of Kent, and cousin Beatrice Cedarholm of Philadelphia, Pa.

A service of thanksgiving for her life will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, in Jess Lee United Methodist Church, Easton. Private burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield. Calling hours are Tuesday, Jan. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
