The Fairfield Democratic Town Committee honored two members for their contributions to the party during the group's recent annual Century Club Brunch at the Patterson Club.

Ruth Smey was presented the Eunice Postol Award, given annually to a Democrat in recognition of longtime community service.

Steven Sheinberg was given the Denise Dougiello Young Turk Award, presented each year to a Democrat who has contributed "in an exceptional way" toward the DTC's goals and objectives.

Smey joined the DTC in 1979, according to the release, and has served on the Representative Town Meeting, as town commissioner of transportation, constable, justice of the peace, and chairman of a senior tax-advisory panel. She also was a district leader in RTM District 5 and was active in DTC fundraising.

She also served with numerous community and civic organizations.

Sheinberg has made "an incredible impact in a short period of time" for Fairfield Democrats, according to the party. Before moving to Fairfield in 2012, he was active in Democratic politics in Queens, N.Y.

In 2014, Sheinberg was the Fairfield party's campaign coordinator, and the DTC credited him with a role in generating high voter turnout that brought the town an award from the state. He is a member of a group that advocates for competitive education spending and helped to organize support for the town budget in public hearings before the board of finance and RTM, according to the release.
