A Fairfield University student was arrested Tuesday night after kicking in a bedroom door in a campus residence hall.

Palmer A. Prinston, 21, of Port Washington, N.Y., was charged with interfering with an officer and disorderly conduct after the incident, which police said took place in the midst of a break-up with his girlfriend.

According to the report, Prinston's girlfriend had locked him out of his bedroom while she was retrieving some personal items. In reaction, police said, kicked the bedroom door off its hinges.

When the young woman tried to leave the room, Prinston allegedly blocked her way and she grabbed his shirt, according to the report. Originally, Prinston, who had mud on his shirt, told police that he had been attacked by the girlfriend, but later told police his friends were holding him down outside after she left.

When told he was being arrested, police said Prinston became aggressive and tried to run away.

He was released on a $500 bond and scheduled to appear Wednesday in Bridgeport Superior Court.
