The Fairfield Bike Walk Coalition and Eastern Mountain Sports will hold an on-road Traffic Skills 101 class for bicycle enthusiasts ages 16 and over from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, starting at Eastern Mountain Sports, 1939 Black Rock Turnpike.
Participants must complete a free online class at www.bikeed.org before participating in the on-road class, limited to 12 participants. They must arrive for the on-road class with a printed copy of the last page of the online class showing a score and certificate of completion.
The course covers bike-handling skills, crash-avoidance techniques, proper lane and intersection positioning in moderate to heavy traffic, and Connecticut traffic law as it pertains to bicyclists. The class also teaches basics on dressing for cycling, needed equipment, nutrition, hydration for the longer ride and bicycle maintenance. Instructors are certified by the League of American Bicyclists.
The cost for the on-road class is $20 for paid coalition members and $30 for nonmembers.
To register, email Andrew Graceffa at email@example.com or stop in at Eastern Mountain Sports. After registration, the coalition will forward additional details about the event.
