The Greenwich boys hockey team got a pair of unassisted goals in the third period and beat Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe 2-0 Saturday at Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport.

With Fairfield trailing 1-0 with 9.2 seconds left to play and its goalie pulled, Greenwich defenseman Michael Schmeiler cleared a faceoff in front of the Greenwich net, and sent in a 170-foot empty netter to seal the win.

Ryan Corrigan put back his own shot with at 7:49 in the third to open the scoring.

Fairfield outshot Greenwich 27-23. Greenwich goaltender Ricky Piper stopped 27 shots, while Conor Frawley stopped 21 for Fairfield.
