Dr. Veronica Waks returns to the Fairfield Library this fall to present "Understanding Breast Cancer," a series of talks on the causes, treatments and prevention of breast cancer. Her first talk, on Thursday, Sept. 12, will examine the internal and external causes of breast cancer development, including genetic predisposition, the role of the environment, and stress. The current methods of screening for breast cancer also will be discussed. The talk will start at 7 p.m. in the main library's Rotary Room, 1080 Old Post Road. Registration is required.
"Understanding Breast Cancer, Part 2" on Nov. 14 will look at the types and stages of cancer and methods of treatment, and the third talk in the series, on Dec. 5, will cover how vitamins, minerals and herbal supplements can be helpful during treatment and how using dietary changes and supplements may contribute to breast cancer prevention.
Waks is a licensed naturopathic physician who practices at the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center in Fairfield. After practicing as a traditional medical doctor for more than 10 years, she studied natural and alternative therapies and received her doctorate in naturopathic medicine.
