David Drabaski, 58, of Duck Farm Road, was charged on a warrant Tuesday with driving under the influence and following too closely.

The charges stem from an October incident in which Drabaski struck a vehicle stopped for a red traffic light on Holland Hill Road, police said. He struck the car as he tried to drive around it on the right shoulder, police said, and accelerated toward North Benson Road before pulling over.

Officers said there was an odor of alcohol on his breath and that he was chewing on something white. Police records indicate the white substance was half-eaten Oxycodone pills.

In addition, officers saw an open bottle of Blackberry Brandy in the vehicle, according to Sgt. Suzanne Lussier, a Fairfield police spokeswoman.

Drabaski was not charged on the night of the incident because he , as well as the driver of the car he hit, had to be transported to Bridgeport Hospital. Bond was set at $2,500 and Drabaski is scheduled to appear Dec. 27 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
