John Best III, 32, of Parkway Road, was charged with driving under the influence, traveling too fast for conditions and failure to stop for a stop sign after he swerved off of Riverside Drive, hit a stop sign, crossed over South Benson Road and hit a utility pole around 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Best told police he was arguing with his girlfriend and when he came to the intersection could not stop his truck. There was an open 18-pack of beer on the passenger floor of the truck, police said, adding that Best failed field sobriety tests.
He was released on a $50 bond and is scheduled to appear Jan. 9 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
