Fairfield forecast: A stormy night on tap

Rain is expected later today in southwestern Connecticut, and the National Weather Service warns that rainfall will be heavy, driven by gusty winds.
Daytime skies will be mostly cloudy, the NWS says, with a high temperature of about 50 degrees and a southwest wind 5 to 11 mph, later becoming southeast and gusting as high as 21 mph.
Rain is expected to begin falling this afternoon, intensifying after 5 p.m. Rainfall will periodically be heavy and, the NWS says, there could even be isolated thunderstorms. The temperature will fall to a low of about 40 degrees. There will be a southeast wind 13 to 22 mph, later becoming west and gusting as high as 44 mph.
Tomorrow will be partly sunny, with a high near 45 degrees. Conditions will continue to be breezy, with a west wind 11 to 14 mph, increasing to between 20 and 23 mph. Tomorrow night will be mostly clear, with a low temperature around 23 degrees.
Thursday will be partly sunny, with a high near 39 degrees. There is a slight chance of showers overnight Thursday, as the temperature falls to a low of about 33 degrees.
Friday, the weather service predicts, there is a chance of showers and a high temperature in the upper-40s.
