The heat wave will loosen its grip today on southwestern Connecticut, according to the National Weather Service.

High temperatures yesterday crested in the mid-90s across the region, nearly 10 degrees "cooler" than the triple-digit levels on Friday.e

And today promises to be less hot than Saturday.

Cloudy skies early this morning are an indication of possible showers and thunderstorms later today, the NWS says. Odds of that precipitation are about 50 percent. Meanwhile, skies will be partly sunny, with a daytime high temperature in the mid-80s.

Tonight that chance of showers and thunderstorms continues , mainly before 10 p.m. The low temperature will be about 69 degrees.

Tomorrow there is also a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Skies will be partly sunny, with a high near 77 degrees. Nighttime will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 66.

On Tuesday, there is still a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before noon. But skies will be mostly sunny, with a high near 85 degrees, the weather service predicts.
