Fairfield forecast: Heavy rain on tap

Rain -- possibly, heavy downpours -- looms in the forecast later today and tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service.

Skies across southwestern Connecticut will be mostly cloudy, as the odds for rainfall increase after 3 p.m. and temperatures rise to about 70 degrees.

Tonight, showers are expected, mainly after 7 p.m., and the NWS warns the rain could be heavy at times. The temperature will dip to the low-60s and there will be a south wind between 6 and 9 mph.

Tomorrow, showers are expected to continue mainly before 11 a.m. -- again, with downpours possible, The daytime high temperature is expected to rise to the low-70s. There is a slight chance of showers tomorrow night as the low temperature registers about 60 degrees.

Thursday should be partly sunny with a high temperature in the low-70s. Clouds move in Thursday night as the low temperature is about 60 degrees.

The outlook for Friday, the weather service says, is partly sunny and temperatures in the mid-70s.
