The National Weather Service forecast for today and the rest of the long Fourth of July weekend -- with the possible exception of Sunday -- look appropriately festive.

Southwestern Connecticut will bask under warm, sunny skies today, according to the NWS, with a daytime high temperature of about 80 degrees and a mild north wind at 8 mph.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 66.

Tomorrow also be sunny with a high near 83 degrees. There will be a north wind 5 to 7 mph, becoming south. Some cloudiness is expected to develop tomorrow night as the temperature drops to 68 degrees.

On Sunday, there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Skies are expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 87 degrees. The wind will be southwest wind between 9 and 11 mph. The chance of precipitation remains in effect Sunday night with a low temperature around 67.

The outlook brightens for Monday -- Independence Day -- with mostly sunny skies and a daytime temperature of about 85 degrees.
