A Fairfield man faces charges in connection with the June theft of cash from a collection box at St. Mary's Church in Greenwich, according to police in that town.
Thomas Alfred Mcmurray, 52, of Stratfield Road in Fairfield, was detained by Fairfield police on Saturday after discovering Greenwich police had a pair of warrants for his arrest.
Police said a man was seen on video surveillance grabbing cash from the collection box at 2:55 p.m. June 11. The amount of cash was not determined.
Mcmurray is charged with two counts of sixth-degree larceny and one count each of second-degree criminal trespass and criminal attempt.
He was released on a promise to appear Aug. 13 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
It was the second theft of collection money from a Greenwich Catholic church in the last three months police said.
In May, a man allegedly stole an undisclosed amount of money from St. Catherine of Siena Church in Riverside.
Greenwich police charged a Bridgeport man in early June with stealing money from the collection after a May 20 Mass.
Angelo T. Younger, 47, of Mead Street in Bridgeport, was charged with sixth-degree larceny after he stole between $400 and $500, police said. Younger's case is still pending in state Superior Court in Stamford.
