FAIRFIELD — A 66-year-old Alma Drive resident is facing charges after he allegedly backed into a car in a parking lot and fled the scene.
Edward Kovacs failed field sobriety tests as well, police said. He was charged with driving under the influence, unsafe backing, evading responsibility, no insurance, and operating an unregistered vehicle.
Police said a woman called state police Monday night around 8:30 p.m. to report she was following a car that had just backed into hers while in the McDonald’s parking lot on the Post Road. She followed the car onto Interstate 95 southbound, and then off the highway at Exit 24, onto Commerce Drive and into the parking lot of Sweet Basil.
State police had the vehicle stopped when local police arrived at the scene.
Kovacs was released after posting a $100 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Bridgeport on Dec. 14.
