Fairfield officials offer condolences, assurances in wake of Newtown school shootings

Following are statements issued by Fairfield public officials in the wake of the mass shooting Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown:
"I wish to express my deep sadness for the tragedy that occurred in Newtown today. My heart goes out to the victims and their loved ones.
"Our Superintendent and Police Chief have sent out an alert to Fairfield's parents. Please be reassured that our town continues to keep our residents and children safe.
"Let us count our blessings this holiday season and continue to perform good acts for one another."

"As you may know, a horrible tragedy occurred this morning at an elementary school in Newtown.
"The Chief of Police and I have been in touch all day regarding this incident and want to assure you that our schools are safe and that no further action is required by our schools at this time.
"However, the police department will be assigning additional patrol officers to all schools during dismissal time today as an added measure of safety.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the staff and students in Newtown."
