FAIRFIELD — A report about a man possibly toting a rifle on Stratfield Road Friday morning led to a “lock in” for Assumption School students and a large police response.

It turns out that “rifle” was a piece of white roof gutter, carried by a man doing repairs on a house next to Assumption, police said.

The anonymous phone call came into the 911 dispatch center around 9:30 a.m. The caller said it looked like the man was carrying rifle, covered by a white sheet.

The Assumption School students were inside the church, police said, and those doors were locked while police investigated.
