Some Fairfield restaurants during the week of March 19-25 will participate in UNICEF's Tap Project, collecting donations for the global charity's efforts to provide children with clean water.

Wait staff at participating restaurants will ask patrons if they wish to donate $1 to the fund, a sum that would provide a needy chid with clean water for 40 days, according to a Fairfield University student group organizing the drive locally.

The Fairfield student's effort are to provide water in Togo, Vietnam, Mauritania and Cameroon, they said in a news release. Participating restaurants that do no have wait staff will display a canister for donations, they said.

Among participating restaurants are the Circle Diner and Cafe Madeline.
