Michael Murthersbaugh, 48, of 83 Division Ave., was charged with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct around 5:30 p.m. Saturday after allegedly accelerating his vehicle as his girlfriend was attempting to get out, causing the passenger-side door to slam against her wrist, police said.

The two were arguing over money at the time, according to police.

The woman's teenage son witnessed the incident and used a bat to damage Murthersbaugh's vehicle at his Division Avenue address later in the night, police said. However, Murthersbaugh chose not to press charges.

Murthersbaugh was released on a promise to appear and was scheduled to appear Monday in Bridgeport Superior Court.
