"Falcon Pride," the rally cry of Fairfield Ludlowe High School's sports teams, soared Thursday as students collected non-perishable items to replenish Operation Hope's pantry.
Supplies at the agency's pantry, based at 50 Nichols St., are running low, according to officials.
Led by FLHS Athletic Director Dave Schulz and coordinated and sponsored by student athletes from all eight Falcon fall sports teams, the collection at Ludlowe's Unquowa Road campus took in donations of non-perishable and canned foods and hygiene items.
Collection boxes were placed at each of four main school entrances and supervised by student athletes. At the main entrance, the entire boys and girls cross-country teams stationed themselves to show support for the collection efforts and to thank fellow students for donations.
Thursday's collection is the first of several that will be conducted at Fairfield Ludlowe High throughout the 2013-14 school year.
Donations may also be made directly to Operation Hope, which is headquartered at 636 Old Post Road. Call 203-292-5588.
