Wednesday night's heavy rains caused only minor flooding in town, Police Chief Gary MacNamara said Thursday.

He said there was flooding in many of the usual places -- such as the railroad viaducts off the Post Road -- and three homeowners called for help when their basements began to flood.

"We had flooding in the typical areas, like the underpasses, and we did have to block off some of those streets," MacNamara said, but there was no need to evacuate any residents because of flooding.

The Fire Department reported that it received no calls for service caused by flooding problems.

MacNamara said the calls for flooded basements came between 12:16 and 4:45 a.m. Thursday.
