A vacant home on South Benson Road suffered heavy damage in a late night fire Monday.

A call to 911 dispatched firefighters to the scene around 11:30 p.m., and emergency personnel arrived to find the entire back side of the house on fire, and over half of the home’s interior as well.

Firefighters searched the home for occupants and found no one inside. The homeowner later arrived on scene and told officials there was no one currently living at the house.

With all of Fairfield’s Fire Department resources on the scene to bring the fire under control, assistance was called in from Westport, and Southport. The cause of the blaze is being investigated by the Fire Marshal’s office.

The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes and neighboring homes were monitored for levels of carbon monoxide. The town’s building official, AMR and United Illuminating were also at the scene.

Mutual aid was provided by the Stratfield Volunteer and Bridgeport fire departments.
