Published 6:27 am, Wednesday, June 18, 2014
Spollett has been a minister at the church for 30 years and was co-founder of the Operation Hope homeless shelter with Rabbi Leon Waldman in 1986.
In 1994, Spollett led First Church to declare itself an open and affirming congregation for all people regardless of race, class, ancestry, gender identity, marital status, ability or sexual orientation. His other outreach efforts include working with the Mercy Learning Center, Project Learn, Merton House, Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together in Greater Bridgeport.
A special service of worship to honor Spollett will be held at 10:15 a.m. June 22 in the sanctuary. It will be followed by a community cookout and party on the church lawn, 148 Beach Road at 11:30 a.m. Friends from the larger community are invited to be a part of the celebration.
