First Church Congregational will hold its second annual "Sunday of Service" on May 6, during which 200 church members will assemble in teams to carry out various service projects.

Teams plan on cleaning town beaches, planting a vegetable garden for the Operation Hope Food Pantry and painting bedrooms at the Janus House Youth Shelter in Bridgeport, according to a church news release. Other tasks will include organizing children's books for Madison School's Summer Book Project and hosting an afternoon tea featuring a piano concert for residents of the Parish Court Elderly Housing.

In addition, one team plans to work on a new home with Habitat for Humanity in Bridgeport, while another expects to carry out repairs on a Fairfield home through Rebuilding Together. Church members also plan on preparing and freezing 500 meals for Operation Hope and Merton House.

Members plan on gathering at day's end for a dinner, during which participants will share their thoughts on the day and the meaning of service, followed by a communion service.
