With predictions of severe thunderstorms poised to rake Fairfield and the rest of Connecticut on Thursday night, a burst of rain and winds raced through town about 7:30 p.m. but significant damage from the onslaught was not reported.
The "Severe Thunderstorm Watch" issued for the town and rest of southwestern Connecticut remained in effect until 11 p.m.
As of 9 p.m., 374 customers of the United Illuminating Co. had lost power in the power company's Fairfield zone, and an additional 27 in Southport were in the dark -- respectively, 1.71 percent and 1.45 percent of the total customers.
