Good weather at the end of last week enabled the town to finish re-paving the parking lot at Sullivan-Independence Hall in time for the start of the work week Monday.

Department of Public Works crews began grinding, re-grading and paving the parking lot last Thursday, with work continuing over the next two days.

While the parking lot was closed during business hours, municipal offices remained open. Off-site parking was available on the street and behind First Church Congregational, across Old Post Road.

"It went smoother than I thought," Public Works Director Richard White said. "It worked out well."

The lot's surface has not yet been striped, but that will likely be done Sunday after new curbing is installed Saturday.

Unfortunately, White said, the repaving project did not provide a way to add parking spaces. "It's kind of maxed out now as it is," he said. "We looked at it a couple of times, but there's not a lot of extra space there."
