Helen Mary Poruban Sanville, 85, of Stratford, died July 2, 2010, in her home.

She is survived by her brothers, Joseph Poruban and his wife, Barbara of Fairfield, and William Poruban and his wife, Josephine of Florida; a sister, Barbara Friedman of Oxford; her granddaughter, Nicole Kemp of Michigan; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her two sons, Jackie and Daryl Sanville; her parents, Charles and Elizabeth Zsoka Poruban; and her siblings, Elizabeth Poruban, Alex Poruban and Anne Brelsford.

Sanville was an employee of Bryant Electric for many years before her retirement. She continued working in Stratford's Baldwin Senior Center, where she welcomed visitors as the center's receptionist. An active member of the United Church of Christ in Bridgeport, she served as a church elder and was involved in the Bessemer Seniors and Women's Guild and assisted at all the church tag sales and flea markets. She was also a member of the Stratford VFW Women's Auxiliary and Order of the Moose.

Sanville loved her family and friends, and never liked to miss an opportunity to dine out, or to play scrabble or bingo. Calling hours will take place Tuesday, July 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield, with a prayer service at 7 officiated by the Rev. John W. Olson; all other services will be private.
