Vanessa Taylor, 46, of Benham Avenue, Bridgeport, has been charged with stealing checks from an elderly Fairfield woman for whom she worked and then illegally cashing them.

Taylor was charged on a warrant Thursday with second-degree larceny and second-degree forgery.

According to the report, the 90-year-old victim's daughter contacted police in April 2008 to tell them her mother was apparently a victim of identity theft by her home health-care worker. Working with People's United Bank, police discovered that Taylor cashed seven checks totaling $2,100 between January and March 2008, according to the report. The worker showed her Connecticut driver's license when cashing the checks at various People's bank drive-up windows.

Police said Taylor also used the victim's bank account to pay her Cablevision bill, which totaled $663 over a three-month period.

She was held on a $3,500 cash bond and is scheduled to appear Dec. 7 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
