How has Hollywood portrayed spectacular events in the Bible?

A scholar who has written three books on scripture and the movies will dicuss that question in a program on Wednesday evening, Dec. 3 at Fairfield University.

The talk by Adele Reinhartz will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the dining room of the Dolan School of Business and will focus on two silver-screen epics -- the 1956 film "The Ten Commandments" and the 2014 film "Noah," the university said.

Her talk, "Whose Heroes? Hollywood Portrayals of the Bible," is free. Reservations are reequired by calling the university's Bennett Center for Judaic Studies at 203-254-4000, ext. 2066.

Reinhartz is a professor of classics and religious studies at the University of Ottawa. She is the author of "Scripture on the Silver Screen" (Westminster John Knox, 2003), "Jesus of Hollywood" (Oxford, 2007) and "Bible and Cinema: An Introduction" (Routledge, 2013).
