Joan Penney, 51, of Hulls Highway, was charged with driving under the influence Monday night.
Penney was at a friend's house on Burr Street and had apparently been drinking, police said. The friend tried to take Penney's keys to keep her from driving but when she was unsuccessful, called police. Officers saw Penney pulling into a parking space at her condominium. She then backed out of the space and stopped the car in front of the patrol car. She was unsteady on her feet and could not remember where she was coming from, according to the report.
Penney failed field sobriety tests and was released on a $100 bond. She was scheduled to appear Aug. 14 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
