Yale University scholar Mark Schenker will lead a series of four discussions of "The Iliad" at the Fairfield Public Library.

The discussions of Homer's classic are planned on alternate Thursdays from 7 to 8:15 p.m. in the Rotary Room of the main branch, 1080 Old Post Road, the library said.

Dates are Oct. 4 and 18, Nov. 1 and 15.

The talks will follow the Robert Fagles translation (Penguin, 1990). The Oct. 4 session will focus on books one through six.

The series is free, but advance registration is required due to the limited space.

Schenker is an associate dean at Yale College, dean of academic affairs and a part-time lecturer in the English department.

He has led book discussions at the Fairfield Public Library for more than a decade and has given numerous lectures on writers and their works.
