FAIRFIELD — People wondering if solar panels would be a bright idea for their home can learn more at a Wednesday workshop at Sherman School, 250 Fern St.

The free workshop is sponsored by the town’s Clean Energy Task Force, in conjunction with Solarize Fairfield.

According to Scott Thompson, chairman of the task force, the panel applied for acceptance into the Solarize program, which is administered by SmartPower on behalf of the CT Green Bank.

“To date, we have 290 Fairfield residents who have gone solar at their homes,” Thompson said. “We hope to try to push that to 500 by the time this program ends in July.”

Thompson said organizers of the solar initiative are considering possibly posting the Solarize Fairfield progress on their Facebook page.

At the workshop, people can learn about the Solarize Fairfield program, meet the local solar equipment installer and learn about financing options.

Through a competitive selection process, SmartPower selected All Green it Solar as Fairfield’s solar equipment installer. Under the arrangement, All Green it Solar will install solar panels in town at discount pricing.

Solarize Fairfield also offers residents access to financing options with no upfront costs. Qualified residents can also qualify for no-money-down financing. To be eligible, residents must sign an installation contract by July 28
