John E. Ready, 84, of Fairfield died Feb. 6 at the Jewish Home for the Elderly in Fairfield.

Born in Queens, N.Y., he was the son of the late John Ready and Mabel Johnson Ready, and had been a Fairfield area resident most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the 11th Airborne Division as a paratrooper in the Pacific theater.

After the war, he returned to the area and began his career in the plumbing trade. He was a member of Local 777 Plumbers and Pipefitters for more than 60 years and worked for various companies, including the Frouge Corp. and E&F Construction. In the years shortly before his retirement he worked in the nuclear power industry at various plants. He was also a partner with the late William Simko in R&S Developers of Fairfield.

He was a member of America-St. John's Lodge No. 8 of the Connecticut Freemasons in Stratford for almost 62 years, as well as the Second Company Governor's Foot Guard.

Survivors include his companion, Esmee Hurlburt of Fairfield; two sons, Robert Ready and his wife Margee of Stratford and John Ready of Shelton; a sister, Mary Ann Cass of Fairfield; five grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Richard Ready; sisters Elizabeth (Betty) Kopen and Doris Ready, and his former wife, Ann Ready.

A funeral service is set for 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, followed by burial in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport. Calling hours will be Thursday, Feb. 10, from 4 to 8 p.m., in the funeral home.
