John W. Whiting

The husband of the late Maureen O'Brien Whiting, he was the son of the late Catherine and Stiles Whiting. He was born in Bridgeport and lived there most of his life.
He was a graduate of St. Patrick's Elementary School in Bridgeport, Fairfield College Preparatory School and Fairfield University. He served in the Army and was stationed at Fort Dix in New Jersey. He married Maureen O'Brien in April 1958. They were members of St. Ann's Parish in Black Rock, where he was a soloist for the adult choir. He worked as a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier for 31 years. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Valade and her husband Jay of Fairfield, and Patricia Welch and her husband Tom of Trumbull, and five grandchildren, Matt and Erin Valade of Fairfield, and Jack, Michael and Cait Welch of Trumbull. He also was predeceased by a brother, James Stiles Whiting.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, at St. Pius X Church 834 Brookside Drive. Burial will be private.
