Joseph J. Giannone, 80 of Fairfield, the husband of the late Jacqueline (Jackie) Giannone (Chimini), died July 23 in St. Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport.

Born in Bridgeport, the son of the late Salvatore and Augustina Giannone, he had been a Fairfield resident for the last 41 years. He graduated from Central High School in Bridgeport and received a BS degree in engineering from the University of Bridgeport. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy prior to beginning his career as a professional engineer, which spanned more than 50 years at Salmini Co., Fletcher Thompson and the F.I.P. Corp.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fairfield County Fish and Game Club and for nearly 40 years a member of the Businessmen's Bible Class. He was a long-time parishioner and eucharistic minister at St. Pius X Church. He also was an avid boater and fisherman.

Survivors include three children, Karen G. Wise and significant other David Salo of Westwood, Mass., Lisa Coconides and her husband Lou of Belmont, Mass., and Keith J. Giannone and significant other, Dawn Martin of Fairfield; four grandchildren, Kyle and Cameron and Leah and Lindsey; two sisters-in-law, Rita Giannoni of Florida and Alice Giannoni of Trumbull, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, George Giannoni, John Giannoni, and a sister, Theresa Giannone.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 28, at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive. Burial with military honors will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, July 27, from 4 to 8 p.m., in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road.
