The 33rd annual Coca-Cola Kaulbach Memorial Golf Classic will take place on Thursday, Sept. 12, at Brooklawn Country Club, 500 Algonquin Road.
The event begins with registration and a gourmet brunch at 9:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 11:15 p.m. Cocktail hour begins at 4:30 p.m., with dinner and an award ceremony immediately following. The ceremony will include a raffle and a live auction. The $500 entry fee ($170 of which is tax deductible) includes all meals, cocktails, greens fees, golf cart, locker facilities, par three prizes for amateurs and special commemorative gifts. Play is limited to 120 golfers.
"It's a great day of golf, on a renowned golf course, all to support cancer patients from throughout the area and their families -- no matter how many birdies or bogeys you end up with," said Steve Jakab, president of the Bridgeport Hospital Foundation, which organizes the event with the Coca-Cola Kaulbach Golf Committee.
The tournament is the legacy of its founder, Ernie Kaulbach, an avid golfer, businessman and philanthropist, who died of cancer in 1996. Since 2000, the classic has raised more than $1 million to support cancer services at Bridgeport Hospital. Fairfield resident Christine Bodie and former Fairfielder Austin Felis are members of the Coca-Cola Kaulbach Golf Committee.
