Kids hit downtown streets in quest of hallo'treats

Fairfield streets downtown were crowded with tricksters prowling for treats in costumes that ranged from regal to the ridiculous, from the scary to silly, as the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual "Trick or Treat on Safety Street" Monday afternoon.
While superheroes and zombies -- the walking dead look -- appeared popular with the 'tween set, perhaps the scariest gremlins on hand -- depending on one's political persuasion -- were the politicos handing out treats in a quest for votes next Tuesday.
The Police Department parked its DARE car on Sherman Green and filled the trunk with candy for the hordes of trick-or-treaters as they roamed from business to business in search of sweets, while McGruff the Crime Dog danced to Halloween-themed music emanating from the car's speakers.
All up and down the Post Road, merchants set up tables outside their storefronts to pass out candy, cookies, pretzels and juice all afternoon.
The unseasonable trick played by Mother Nature with Saturday's icy nor'easter was lost in the happy hubbub of Monday's treats.
